RUNNING GAIT ANALYSIS & SHOE FITTING

Understand how you actually run.

Clinical gait analysis combined with expert footwear advice — so your technique and your shoes are both working with you, not against you.

Most running niggles aren't random — they usually come down to some combination of technique, training load, strength, and footwear. A generic video of your stride can show you what you're doing, but it takes a physiotherapist's assessment to work out why, and what to actually do about it.

Our running gait analysis combines video technique analysis with a full musculoskeletal assessment — strength, mobility and movement screening — so what you walk away with is a plan based on your body, not just your footage.

HOW IT WORKS

Two ways we can help.

RUNNING GAIT ANALYSIS

Clinical Running Assessment

A full assessment combining video technique analysis with a hands-on musculoskeletal screen — strength, mobility, and movement patterns relevant to running. We look at your injury history and goals, then identify what's actually contributing to your pain, inefficiency, or plateau.

  • Video gait analysis from multiple angles
  • Strength, mobility and movement screening
  • Footwear inspection — current and previous shoes, checked for wear patterns
  • A personalised plan: technique cues, exercises, and training guidance

SHOE FITTING

Running Shoe Fitting, With SBR Collective

For shoe fitting specifically, we work directly with the team at SBR Collective, right next door at our Rockingham clinic. We handle the physical and biomechanical side — how you actually move and load through your foot and leg — and combine that with SBR Collective's footwear expertise to point you toward shoes suited to your stride, not just whatever's popular this season.

  • Biomechanical analysis from On Form Physio
  • Footwear expertise and stock from SBR Collective
  • No obligation to purchase — you're free to take the recommendation wherever you like

Returning to running after injury, surgery, or time off

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your running assessment, step by step.

01

Book & Prepare

Book online, and bring your usual running shoes (current and previous pairs if you have them) plus comfortable running kit. If you track your runs, download a recent training export from Strava, Garmin, Runna, TrainingPeaks, or whatever you use — it helps with the history-taking part of your assessment.

02

Assessment & History

We talk through your injury history, training, and goals, then run a musculoskeletal screen of your strength and mobility.

03

Video Gait Analysis

We film and review your running technique, identifying patterns contributing to pain, inefficiency, or risk of injury.

04

Your Plan

You'll leave with a clear breakdown of what we found, exercises to address it, and footwear guidance — including a referral to SBR Collective if a shoe change is part of the picture.

OUR PARTNER

Why we work with SBR Collective.

On Form Physio × SBR Collective

SBR Collective sit right alongside our Rockingham clinic, and stock a genuinely wide range of running shoe brands — including Asics, Brooks, Mizuno, On Running, Saucony, Tarkine and more. Rather than fitting shoes based on a quick in-store look at your stride, we handle the clinical side first: how you actually move, load, and where your current shoes might be helping or working against you. From there, the team at SBR Collective can match that to the right shoe from their range — combining our biomechanical assessment with their footwear expertise, instead of you having to choose between a clinical opinion and a retail one.

FAQ

Common questions.

It’s an assessment of your running technique and biomechanics — how your foot strikes the ground, how your joints move, your stride length and cadence, and your overall running pattern. Combined with a musculoskeletal assessment, it helps identify what might be contributing to pain, inefficiency, or injury risk.
Please allow around 60 minutes for a full running gait analysis, including the musculoskeletal screen, video analysis, and discussion of your results and plan.
Wear your usual running kit and the shoes you currently run in — bring a previous pair too if you have one, since wear patterns help with the assessment. Avoid loose clothing that might obscure your movement on camera.
No — we’re primary contact practitioners, so you can book a running assessment directly without a doctor’s referral, unless your visit is being paid for by a third party such as WorkCover or a Motor Vehicle Accident claim.
This depends on your situation — a good guide is whenever you’re returning from injury, ramping up training significantly, training for a new event, or noticing new pain or discomfort while running. Some runners also find it useful as an annual check-in.
Not at all. The clinical assessment and shoe recommendation stand on their own — what you do with that information is up to you. SBR Collective happens to be right next to our Rockingham clinic and stock a wide range of brands, which makes the process convenient if you’d like to act on the recommendation straight away.
Many private health funds offer rebates on physiotherapy consultations, which a running gait analysis falls under. Rebate amounts vary by insurer and policy, so it’s worth checking directly with your fund for your specific cover.
